Beautiful Day In Anderson Park
When you run your own business it’s hard to take time out, especially since you’re working hard to make a living and you’re constantly busy. My business is my passion and my obsession. I find it very difficult to shut off my business brain as Genna Design is always in my head.
However it is a necessity to take time out to refresh, inspire new creations and allow the artist to play. I’ve been running my creative practice for over 7 years.The time has flown past so quickly and I’ve been running all the way. It’s now time to slow down and reflect.
Lately I’ve been thinking where has my jewellery came from? what are my inspirations? How have my jewellery designs changed over the years? How did I get into making jewellery? What are my achievements and how can I push my practice further?
In order to answer these questions, I had to take a step back, take time off and look at where I had came from. So I decided to visit my hometown of Largs with my partner to get away from the business and see some family.
Thankfully the weather was nice when we visited. It’s normally raining when I visit! So we managed to go out for walks and visited places I used to hang out as a child. It was here I realised where my inspiration for natural rock formations and mis-shaped stones have came from. Largs is a beautiful seaside town with gorgeous scenery from the sea and beach to the mountains, there’s lots to inspire you there.
I have a love for photography so I brought my camera and took photos for inspiration.

I’m not normally a pink girly girl but I love cherry blossoms and love the contrast to the bright yellow green flowers and the lovely clear blue sky.
I love the textures of the wood of the broken bench , the pealed paint, rusty metal, the moss and green grass. I had forgotten how much I loved trees and nature and the stories they tell.
It’s time to go back to basics. How has Largs inspired me to make jewellery? How has my jewellery changed throughout my years of making? My next post will be of my early pieces of jewellery that I made whilst studying at Cardonald College.
